Privacy Policy

Better Speak · Effective date: October 7, 2026

Better Speak ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") is a speech-practice app that helps you improve your pronunciation, clarity, and speaking pace. Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App uses, how it is used, and the choices you have.

In short: Better Speak does not require an account, does not collect your personal information, does not store your voice recordings, and does not track you or show ads.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, store on our servers, sell, or share the information listed below. The App has no user accounts, no third-party analytics, and no advertising.

  • Your name, email address, phone number, or other contact details
  • Voice recordings or audio files
  • Location data
  • Contacts, photos, or other files on your device
  • Advertising identifiers or browsing history
  • Analytics or usage-tracking data

2. Microphone and Speech Recognition

To give you feedback on your speaking, the App asks for permission to use the microphone to listen to you while you practice, and Speech Recognition to convert your spoken words into text so the App can compare them with the practice phrase and calculate your accuracy and speaking pace.

Audio is processed only while you are actively practicing (after you tap the microphone button). The App does not save, keep, or upload your audio recordings.

Speech-to-text conversion is provided by Apple's Speech Recognition service. Depending on your device, language, and settings, Apple may process the audio on your device or send it to Apple's servers to complete the recognition. That processing is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

The recognized text is used only during your practice session to calculate your score, and is not sent to us.

You can allow or deny microphone and speech recognition access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone / Speech Recognition on your device. If you deny access, the speaking-practice features will not work, but you can still browse content and listen to the pronunciation playback.

3. Data Stored on Your Device

To save your progress, the App stores a small amount of data locally on your device only, such as the items listed below.

This data never leaves your device through the App and is not accessible to us. Deleting the App permanently removes this data. If you use iCloud or device backups, this data may be included in your backups under Apple's terms.

  • Whether you have completed onboarding
  • Your speaking-level assessment result
  • Practice progress, accuracy scores, and pace results
  • Daily challenge completion and tongue twister best scores
  • Achievements unlocked

4. Text-to-Speech

The "Listen" feature uses Apple's built-in text-to-speech engine on your device to read practice content aloud. No personal data is involved.

5. Third-Party Services

The App does not include third-party SDKs for analytics, advertising, or tracking. The only external service involved is Apple's Speech Recognition, as described in Section 2.

6. Children's Privacy

Better Speak is suitable for a general audience, including learners of all ages. Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). Parents and guardians can manage microphone and speech recognition permissions through the device's Settings or Screen Time controls.

7. Data Security

Since your progress data stays on your device and we do not operate servers that receive your data, the security of that information depends on your device's built-in protections (such as your passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID). We recommend keeping your device secure and up to date.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in the EU/UK or the CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Because we do not collect or hold personal data, there is nothing for us to access or delete. You can delete all locally stored App data at any time by deleting the App.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when we add new features. When we do, we will change the "Effective date" at the top of this page. If the App ever begins collecting personal data, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent first.
